Home Bookkeeping from KeepSoft Software is an average product to keep your home finances in order—it's user-friendly and includes some good reports.
If you're looking for a more complete program that includes financial planning, investing and online features, you aren't going to find it here—look at the Gold and Silver products.
Ease of Use/Install:
A user-friendly toolbar, that allows you to quickly access all your accounts, expenses, income, planning and debt, makes Home Bookkeeping a good program for the computer novice.
The program was easy to install and we didn't encounter any errors during installation.
Banking/Bills:
Home Bookkeeping allows you to enter your accounts and keep track of transactions. The software does not connect to the Internet and link to your actual bank account so you can't transfer money or see current transactions.
This software includes an extensive section on exchange rates—you can look up available currencies and find out what the exchange rate is for a specific amount of money that you need to exchange.
Reporting:
Home Bookkeeping offers a few reports related to cash flow and about two different miscellaneous reports.
The software doesn't provide tax, planning or investing reports.
Financial Calculators:
Home Bookkeeping offers a purchase planner that allows you to look at your budget and calculate how much money you will have left over for purchases.
We feel mortgage and other specialty calculators would be valuable resources in this type of software.
Tax Options:
Home Bookkeeping doesn't offer tax options.
Personal Investing:
Home Bookkeeping does not offer investing features as part of their software. If investing is important to you, then Quicken Deluxe or Microsoft Money Deluxe might suite you better.
Summary:
Home Bookkeeping is very basic bookkeeping software. Banking, personal investing, planning and tax options would make this product better. The bottom line—there are better finance software packages available for the same price.
